Nagarjun Forest Rock Climbing provides the ultimate introduction to natural outdoor rock climbing in Nepal, situated inside the serene boundaries of Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park just northwest of Kathmandu. Known locally as the Balaju rock climbing crag, this limestone cliff has served as the historic training ground for generations of Himalayan climbers and certified mountain guides. The adventure begins with a quick twenty-minute private drive from Thamel to the national park check-post, followed by a pleasant walk through protected pine, oak, and sal woodlands where birdsong replaces city noise.

The climbing area features a natural limestone cliff face rising between twelve and twenty meters high, surrounded by lush forest canopies that provide shade throughout the day. Nagarjun is uniquely versatile because it houses more than twenty bolted sport routes ranging from beginner-friendly grades (4c to 5b) up to challenging technical pitches (6a to 7a).
