Khopra Danda Trek 8 Days
The 8-Day Khopra Danda Trek is one of the Annapurna region's finest virgin ridge trails, offering an off-the-beaten-path alternative to Poon Hill and ABC. Branching north from Tadapani into quiet rhododendron cloud forests, the route ascends past the alpine pastures of Dobato to the dramatic vantage crest of Khopra Ridge (3,660 m). Perched high above the world's deepest gorge (Kali Gandaki), the community lodge looks straight across at the colossal 8,167-meter wall of Mount Dhaulagiri. An optional alpine day hike leads to the sacred glacial waters of Khayer Lake (4,660 m) nestled directly beneath the sheer ice face of Annapurna South.

Depart Lakeside Pokhara by private vehicle along the Baglung Highway to Nayapul and Birethanti. Register permits at the ACAP checkpost and begin climbing stone steps past terraced farming plots and waterfalls. Ascend into the traditional slate-roofed Gurung heritage village of Ghandruk to enjoy views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre.
Day 1
Climb out of Ghandruk through moss-draped rhododendron and oak cloud forests where langur monkeys leap through the canopy. Pass small mountain streams and cascading waterfalls to reach the forest ridge settlement of Tadapani for an afternoon of mountain views and rest.
Day 2
Leave the main commercial trekking route, branching north onto the virgin forest trail. Climb through ancient rhododendron woods and open alpine pastures past Isharu. Arrive at Dobato in the early afternoon, then take a 30-minute evening hike up to Muldai Peak (3,637 m) for a sunset panorama across Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, and Fishtail.
Day 3
Descend gently through alpine scrub and rhododendron groves to Chistibung for lunch. Tackle a steady uphill climb out of the tree line onto the open, grassy alpine spine of Khopra Ridge (3,660 m). Arrive at the community lodge perched high on the cliff edge with an eye-level view of Mount Dhaulagiri (8,167 m) across the Kali Gandaki valley.
Day 4
Depart before sunrise with packed daypacks and warm layers. Climb along the steep, rugged alpine ridge past seasonal yak-herders' huts. Navigate rocky scree slopes to reach sacred Khayer Lake (4,660 m), a revered Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage site sitting beneath the ice cliffs of Annapurna South. After taking in the pristine glacial waters, descend to Khopra Danda.
Day 5
Enjoy a final sunrise over Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri from the lodge terrace. Begin a long descent down the ridge slopes through pine, bamboo, and oak forests. Cross the river over a wooden bridge and climb a gentle hillside into the Magar village of Swanta, surrounded by terraced crops.
Day 6
Descend through terraced fields to the river, crossing on a wooden bridge past a local water mill. Climb steadily through shaded rhododendron woods to rejoin the main trail at Upper Ghorepani. Spend the afternoon exploring the blue-roofed mountain settlement.
Day 7
Pre-dawn hike up Poon Hill for sunrise over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Descend through Ulleri and Tikhedhungga along the 3,300 stone steps to Birethanti. Meet your private vehicle for the return drive along the highway to Lakeside Pokhara.
