The World Peace Pagoda and Pumdikot Day Hike offers an enriching blend of serene lakeside vistas, cultural heritage, and panoramic Himalayan viewpoints nestled along the southern ridge of the Pokhara valley. The adventure begins along the peaceful shores of Lakeside Pokhara, where hikers board a traditional wooden rowboat to glide across the calm waters of Phewa Lake. The boat crossing provides a striking perspective of the Annapurna massif reflected upon the surface before dropping you off at the foot of the densely forested southern hillside.

From the lakeshore trailhead, the path climbs steadily along stone staircases shaded by a lush subtropical canopy of Sal and Schima trees. As you ascend the ridge of Anadu Hill, the bird calls and rustling leaves create a tranquil atmosphere far removed from the bustling town. The trail emerges at the crest to reveal the gleaming white monument of the Shanti Stupa, or World Peace Pagoda. Built by Japanese Buddhist monks to promote universal peace, this tranquil sanctuary overlooks the entire Pokhara basin, turquoise Phewa Lake, and the snow-draped summit pyramid of Mount Machhapuchhre towering majestically in the background.

After spending time exploring the peaceful courtyard of the stupa, the trek continues along a scenic ridgeline path toward the hilltop of Pumdikot at approximately 1,500 meters. Pumdikot has emerged as one of the valley’s premier cultural landmarks, crowned by a massive 51-foot seated statue of Lord Shiva surrounded by sacred bells, prayer galleries, and spacious glass viewing decks. Standing at the viewpoint rewards visitors with an expansive 360-degree panorama encompassing the Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri, Lamjung Himal, and the sweeping lowlands below.

Following a break for refreshment and photography at Pumdikot, the route gently descends along roadside trails and stone paths toward the southern outskirts of Chhorepatan.
