Frequently Asked Questions

Kala Patthar is located at 5,450 meters (17,880 ft) where oxygen levels are roughly 50% of sea level. Staying 10 to 15 minutes allows ample time for photos and sightseeing while preventing any risk of acute mountain sickness (AMS) for non-acclimatized passengers.
Due to thin air at extreme altitude above 5,000 meters, aviation safety regulations limit the helicopter landing weight to roughly 220–250 kg. For groups of 4 to 5 passengers, the pilot drops part of the group at Pheriche or Syangboche and flies 2 to 3 passengers at a time to Kala Patthar in seamless quick shuttles.
Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) provide crystal-clear blue skies and excellent mountain visibility. Winter (December to February) also offers crisp, cloudless mornings with snow-covered peaks.
