Langtang Valley Trek 7 Days [2026] – Kya

The 7-Day Langtang Valley Trek leads into the "Valley of Glaciers," situated directly north of Kathmandu near the Tibetan border. Following the Langtang Khola gorge through sub-tropical forests home to red pandas and Himalayan black bears, the trail ascends past rebuilt stone Tamang settlements into a wide glacial amphitheater. From the spiritual mountain sanctuary of Kyanjin Gompa (3,870 m), you will climb the high panoramic vantage point of Kyanjin Ri (4,773 m) to take in ice flutings, glaciers, and massive snow faces anchored by Langtang Lirung (7,227 m).

Itinerary

Follow our carefully planned Langtang Valley Trek 7 Days [2026] – Kya itinerary, designed with proper acclimatization and comfortable trekking days throughout the journey.

Depart Kathmandu early morning by private 4WD vehicle, climbing out of the valley along the Pasang Lhamu Highway. Wind past terraced farmland, mountain rivers, and the bazaar hub of Trishuli. Enter Langtang National Park at Dhunche (1,960 m) to register permits, then descend switchbacks along the Trishuli River canyon to the frontier town of Syabrubesi to settle into your lodge.

Cross the suspension bridge over the Bhote Koshi and follow the Langtang Khola upstream. The trail winds through dense subtropical forest filled with oak, maple, alder, and bamboo where langur monkeys and diverse birdlife thrive. Cross wooden bridges across roaring torrents, climb past Bamboo outpost for lunch, and make a final steady forest ascent up to the teahouse clearing of Lama Hotel.

Climb through hemlock and rhododendron forests, catching your first unobstructed glimpses of Langtang Lirung's snowy summit through the trees. Pass through the army post at Ghodatabela (3,030 m) where the gorge opens into a broad U-shaped glacial valley. Walk past prayer wheels, water-driven mills, and grazing yaks, passing the memorial chorten of Old Langtang before arriving at the newly rebuilt stone settlement of New Langtang Village.

A shorter acclimatization walk up the widening alpine valley. Pass through small stone villages at Mundu and Sindum, crossing glacial streams and skirting Nepal's longest hand-carved Buddhist Mani wall. Arrive before noon at Kyanjin Gompa, nestled beneath the amphitheater of Langtang Lirung, Kinshung, and Yansa Tsenji. Spend the afternoon exploring the historic monastery and sampling fresh artisan yak cheese at the local dairy factory.

Set out early for a steep climb up the switchback ridge of Kyanjin Ri (4,773 m). From the prayer-flag-strewn peak, take in a 360-degree panorama of the entire Langtang cirque, Dorje Lakpa, Gangchempo, and glacial icefalls spilling down the border peaks of Tibet. Descend to Kyanjin Gompa for breakfast, pack your gear, and retrace your route down the valley past Langtang Village and Ghodatabela to rest in the thicker air of Lama Hotel.

Enjoy an easy, downhill forest walk retracing the rushing waters of the Langtang Khola. Pass through Bamboo and Rimche, taking in the shaded oak and rhododendron canopy. Cross the high suspension bridge over the Bhote Koshi to return to Syabrubesi for a celebratory farewell dinner with your guide and porter team.

Board your private 4WD vehicle for the scenic return drive along the mountain highway through Dhunche and Trishuli. Arrive in Kathmandu by mid-afternoon and transfer directly to your hotel, concluding the complete Langtang Valley circuit.
