Mount Lhotse Expedition 8,516 m

The 50-Day Mount Lhotse Expedition (8,516 m / 27,940 ft) is an iconic high-altitude climbing pursuit situated directly adjacent to Mount Everest. Connected to Everest via the 7,986 m South Col, Lhotse is the fourth highest peak in the world and renowned for its sheer southern wall and dramatic summit couloir. The route follows the classic Everest South Col trail from Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) through the dynamic Khumbu Icefall, the expansive glacial basin of the Western Cwm, and the blue ice wall of the sheer Lhotse Face. Branching right from Camp 3 (7,300 m), climbers enter the narrow, steep Lhotse Couloir (500 meters of sustained 45° to 55° mixed ice and firm snow). Supported by a strict 1:1 Climbing Sherpa ratio, continuous fixed ropes, advanced Summit/Poisk oxygen systems, and high-altitude weather telemetry, this expedition delivers an extraordinary 8,000-meter mountaineering triumph.

Frequently Asked Questions

Lhotse shares the exact same route as Mount Everest from Base Camp through the Khumbu Icefall, Western Cwm, and up the lower Lhotse Face to Camp 3. Above Camp 3 (7,300 m), while Everest climbers branch left toward the South Col (7,986 m), Lhotse climbers branch right and ascend directly up the steep 500-meter Lhotse Couloir to Lhotse's summit.
The defining technical feature is the Lhotse Couloir—a sustained, narrow 500-meter snow, ice, and mixed rock chute angled at 45° to 55°. It requires precision crampon work, continuous fixed-rope management, and alertness for falling ice fragments.
Yes. The 'Everest-Lhotse Double' is a popular combination for elite mountaineers. Because both peaks share Base Camp, Camp 2, and Camp 3, climbers can summit Everest first, descend to the South Col or Camp 3, and push for the Lhotse summit within 24 to 48 hours.
